Teresa Coutinho
Teresa Coutinho (1988) is an actress, creator and playwright.
She was one of those selected for the École des Maitres 2016, guided by Christiane Jatahy.
She has worked as an actress with Christiane Jatahy, Tim Crouch, Companhia KASSYS, Catherine Marnas, Rogério de Carvalho, Ricardo Neves-Neves, Nuno Cardoso, Raquel Castro, Cédric Orain, Guilherme Gomes, Carlos Avillez, Carla Maciel, SillySeason, Os Possessos, Maria João Luís, Nuno M Cardoso, among others. She created “Peço a Palavra” (2023), “Sem Medo” (2023), “Solo” (2022), “Distante”, by Caryl Churchill (2021), “A Leveza das Coisas” (2020) radio play, “O Eterno Debate” (2020), “E Comparar-te a um Dia de Verão?” from William Shakespeare (2018), “Ways of Looking” from John Berger (2017), among others. She began the internationalization of her work with “Solo”, at the Festival Theâtre En Mai, Dijon, in 2022.
With Isadora Neves Marques, she directed and wrote the video “Correspondência” (2021) for Teatro Municipal do Porto.
As an assistant director, Teresa Coutinho has worked with Tiago Rodrigues, Gus Van Sant, Faustin Linyekula, Natália Luiza and Beatriz Batarda.
She has written texts for various Portuguese companies/structures, including Escola de Mulheres, Malvada Associação Artística, Ao Cabo Teatro, etc.
She supported the dramaturgy of the play Aurora Negra at Teatro Nacional D. Maria II (2021).
She is the coordinator of the Living Poets Club at Teatro Nacional D. Maria II and the Reading Club at Batalha Centro de Cinema.
Teresa Coutinho was an acting and dramaturgy trainer at festivals and schools. She teaches acting at ACE – Academia Contemporânea do Espetáculo Famalicão. She was a jury member for the 2022 and 2023 editions of the École des Maitres.
“O Eterno Debate” was considered one of the best shows of 2020 by the newspaper Expresso. “Solo” was one of the texts nominated for Best Theater Text 2022 by the Portuguese Society of Authors (SPA).
She is a founding member of Ação Cooperativista.
She is currently preparing the creation “Was ist das Kind so schön” (How beautiful the girl is), based on Paula Rego, for Theater Basel in Basel and “The End has been Seen” based on Christa Wolf and Silvia Federici (2025).
