Sara Anjo (PT 1982) is a choreographer and dancer interested in meditative and ecstatic practices, breathing and walking are the main ones. She is also interested in developing her work in relation to outdoors, landscapes and natural environments. She permanently questions herself about: what moves us? How do we move? And to where are we moving?<\/p>\n
She graduated in dance from the Academy of Contemporary Dance (2001). She studied Artistic Studies (BA) at Faculty of Arts of Lisbon (2008) and Contemporary Art (post-graduation) at Lisbon\u2019s Catholic University (2011). She holds a master in choreography from Das Graduate School in Amsterdam (2016).<\/p>\n
Her proposals activate a sonic theatre, where choreography and the performative space are explored through soundscape. She devised “Nobody would know to tell that story” a performance in collaboration with 6 female artists (BoxNova CCB 2011); “Liquid Landscapes” a travelling dance in an old washing house in Lisbon (Teatro do Sil\u00eancio 2012); “Shaped as a Tree” a solo about disquietness (Neg\u00f3cio ZDB 2016); “Sacrum” a magnetic walking (Neg\u00f3cio ZDB 2018). During\u00a02020-23 she developed\u00a0“Islands – a constellation” a project about the insular imaginary and geography. and “Trace” a project about the relation between the body and the ecosystem.\u00a0She makes performative walks in the frame of “Walking to a Place of Strength”.<\/p>\n
She collaborated with Teresa Silva in “Oracle” (TBA, 2019), with Michelle Moura in “Here we are in this little step\u201d (2018-19), with Thea Patterson and Jeremy Gordaneer in the Project \u201cIntensive Maps\u201d (2016-18).<\/p>\n
Alongside her pieces, she has been involved in various publications focusing on movement notation work and the writing of scores as devices for reorienting attention and as a source of experiences.<\/p>\n
She develops performances for young audiences, where she explores the relation between figurative and abstract imagination together with her research to create a sonic theatre. She developed “Everything in the World began with a yes” (CCB-F\u00e1brica das Artes 2016) with Filipe Raposo and “Starts Wash your Feet” with Madalena Palmeirim (CCB-F\u00e1brica das Artes 2018). She published the book “Dancing Dot”, with which she develops workshops and staged readings.
