Elizabete Francisca
Elizabete Francisca (Johannesburg, 1985) works in multidisciplinary and collaborative contexts in the fields of dance, visual arts and cinema.
As a performer and/or artistic collaborator, it is worth mentioning her work with Ana Borralho & João Galante (Sexy MF; I Put a Spell on You; Untitled Still Life; Amigos Coloridos; Purgatório; Aqui Estamos Nós e Louise Michel), Vera Mantero (Bons Sentimentos, Maus Sentimentos; Sub-Reptício (corpo clandestino); Oferecem-se Sombras; Mais Pra Menos Que Pra Mais e O Limpo e o Sujo), Ritó Natálio (Não entendo e tenho medo de entender, o mundo assusta-me com os seus planetas e baratas), Loïc Touzé (Ô Môntagne e Autour de la Table), Tânia Carvalho (Icosahedron), Mariana Tengner Barros (Peça do Coração; The Weather; Ex(i)sT(s) e Resurrection), Mark Tompkins (Improvisações e Colaborações: Improvisação a partir de ‘IN C’ de Terry Riley e Resurrection), with Tonan Quito (Casimiro e Carolina), Meg Stuart & Mark Tompkins (LAB and Serious Fun), Carlos Manuel de Oliveira (Criarei apenas o que não possa imaginar e Fátuo), Carlota Lagido (MINA) and with Ana Trincão (BlindDances).
She made her film debut as an actress with Marília Rocha’s feature film A Cidade Onde Envelheço / Where I Grow Old (Brazil, 2016), in which she won the award for best actress. She was also featured in Catherine or 1786 by Francisca Manuel, Ø ilha by Cláudia Varejão & Jo Castro and A Perfeição by Hugo Vieira da Silva. With Francisca Manuel, she co-directed the video TRAVEL SHOT, in the context of LOOPS.LISBOA 2015; with Francisca Manuel and Jennifer Bonn she co-directed the film O GESTO, a project based on the event À Volta do Mesa: para um imaginário do gesto (2016), which she coordinated and presented in Lisbon.
She created COSMOGONIAS, Eles não nos poderão matar o espírito / COSMOGONIES: They can’t kill our spirit (2024), Os meus totens (2024), a besta, as luas (2019), Dias Contados / Borrowed Time (2019), Tsunamismo, Recital para duas Cordas em M (2013), and co-created with Teresa Silva Leva a mão que eu levo o braço (2010) and Um Espanto Não Se Espera (2011), both winners of the Jovens Criadores (Young Creators) competition.
She was an associate artist of Materiais Diversos agency between 2011 and 2013 (direction Tiago Guedes ), after which she was supported by Vera Mantero’s structure O Rumo do Fumo until 2020. Since 2019 she is a member of APNEIA COLECTIVA artists’ collective. Within this group, she co-organized and participated in the projects CADEIA DE TRANSMISSÃO; O QUE PISAMOS and F.E.R.A. (Feira de Edições Realizadas por Artistas).
She claims each body as an autonomous, singular and legitimate space, seeking to get closer to a certain intimacy, and therefore to emancipation, although always inscribed in a network of paradoxes. A project intrinsically linked to a concern (and urgency) to give voice to a personal, political and social activism.
Furthermore, she continues to collaborate with Daniela Rodrigues, in the cosmic feminist DJ duo, KOSMIK KUNTS.
