Synopsis

Papillons d’éternité, Tânia Carvalho and Matthieu Ehrlacher, find in traditional Portuguese music – through the choice of excerpts, notes, sounds, melodies, harmonies and rhythms that characterize it – a starting point to open their musical adventure.

The instruments played, including the saxophone and eco-erhu, make us embrace this new way of experiencing tradition with a different voice. The songs are dismembered from their original form to be placed, part by part, in the construction of a sound journey, where the echoes of the past resonate in a plunge of voices that come from the inside out, in an atmosphere that refers to tradition through experimental music that fills the space of the Now.

Pieris Napi, initially conceived in 2021, is a concert in constant transformation, where the format is maintained but the content changes according to the groups with which Papillons d’éternité collaborate. To date, there have been three concerts, two as part of BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts: at MNAC (Lisbon) and Teatro Lethes (Faro); and one at Teatro Aveirense.
